FAQs about worship at St. Paul's

Below are commonly asked questions about worship, both in-person and online

copy-of-in-person-worship_42

Is there in-person worship at St. Paul’s Cathedral?

Yes. At St. Paul’s we have opportunities for in-person worship each Sunday. Services are at 8:00 a.m., 9:00 a.m., 11:15 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

When are the services?

  • 8:00 a.m., Holy Eucharist Rite I, spoken service in St. Nicholas Chapel
  • 9:00 a.m., Holy Eucharist Rite II, with St. Paul's Choir in the Cathedral
  • 11:15 a.m., Holy Eucharist Rite I, with Schola Cantorum in the Cathedral
  • 5:00 p.m. Service Schedule
    • First Sunday- Holy Eucharist Rite II (Rooted service with Americana music)
    • Second Sunday- Choral Evensong (evening worship with music provided by the Cathedral Choristers)
    • Third Sunday- crowded table (meets in Dean Willey Hall and is an exploration of current and cultural topics through the lens of scripture, worship, and theology)
    • Fourth Sunday- Choral Evensong with Cathedral Choristers

Can I still stay home and participate in the service?

Yes! Online livestreamed worship is available for every service on the Cathedral website, YouTube page and Facebook page.

What do I need to do to attend a service?

Just come to any service! We ask that you check in with an usher so we can welcome you.

Are there any restrictions about who can come to church?

Everyone is welcome to come to church!

Should I come to church or continue to participate online?

It is up to you! We would love to all gather together, but are aware that there are a number of reasons that make online worship preferable.

Never hesitate to be in contact with Cathedral Clergy.

What does in-person worship look like?

Both bread and wine are served at communion. During this season of coronavirus, each communicant should decide their preferred form of communion. You may receive bread only, bread and wine, or a contact-free blessing. For bread only, cross your arms over your chest after receiving the bread. If you choose to receive wine, you may consume the bread and then sip from the chalice, or extend your hands with the bread given to you to the chalice-bearer who will intinct, or dip, the bread into the wine and place it in your mouth. You may not intinct the bread yourself. Our tradition tells us that to receive communion in one kind (bread or wine) is to receive communion fully.

If you wish to refrain from communion, you may come forward to receive a contact free blessing. Cross your arms over your chest to indicate you would like a blessing.

At this time, all are required to wear masks

Are food and beverages allowed?

Food and beverages may be served and consumed outdoors. Until further notice, no food or beverages may be served or consumed indoors.

What about music?

Congregational singing is allowed. The St. Paul's Choir sings at the 9:00 Sunday service and the Schola Cantorum sings at the 11:15 Sunday service. The Cathedral Choristers, the children and youth choir program, participate in various services.

What about my children?

Children of all ages are welcome in church, as always. Childcare is available for the Sunday morning services beginning at 8:45 a.m. Children over the age of 3 are encouraged to wear masks.

How will I get to church with impaired mobility issues?

There is a ramp accessed in the court yard and a ramp on the west side (Robinson St) of the Cathedral.

What about Church School?

Formation and ministry with children, youth, and their families is incredibly important. Church School for Children and Youth is held every Sunday morning at 10:15 a.m. in the Undercroft. Adult Formation Classes are held in various rooms across the St. Paul's campus at the same time.

What do you mean “livestreamed?”

Those at home will encounter worship live alongside those gathered in the Cathedral. Worship is broadcast live (not pre-recorded) on Sundays at 9:00 a.m., 11:15 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Livestreamed services may be accessed on the St. Paul's website, YouTube and Facebook Live.

If the livestream has problems, what can I do?

Even the best technology sometimes doesn’t work perfectly. Sometimes this is an issue with our host sites Facebook or YouTube. If the livestream freezes or doesn’t air as it should on the platform you are watching, we encourage you to switch to another platform. If the Cathedral website freezes, go directly to the Cathedral’s YouTube or Facebook pages. I. Also know that the livestream is retained as a recorded video on the website.

Supporting the Cathedral

The Cathedral is continuing to be engaged in ministry. Our pastoral care, outreach, worship, and program ministries carry on, even if in different ways, and supporting Cathedral ministries is as important as ever. You can make your offering in any of these ways:

  • Visit the Cathedral Give page to find out the many ways you can support our church.
  • Mail an offering directly to the church
  • Text Stpaulsokc$ and an amount to 73256. Example - Stpaulsokc $50

This service meets in the St. Nicholas Chapel in the Education Building. It is an intimate and quite service of spoken word using the Rite I liturgy found in the Book of Common Prayer. The more distinctive part of a Rite I service is the use of Elizabethan language.

Adult Church School is Happening! Are you tired of letting the kids have all the fun? Beginning on Sep 15, you’re invited to join us for "Reading Between the Lines" Adult Church School at 10:10 in the Adult Learning Room, led by Lauren Bass.   Each week, our incredible team of teachers will invite you to use your imagination, intellect, intuition and reason to engage the Bible stories, connect them with the world around us, and explore the resonances those stories stir in our inmost depths.  We will do more than analyze and understand the text – together we will experience scripture as a reality within ourselves, connecting us to the text and the world around us.  Please feel welcome to drop in any Sunday for “Reading Between The Lines: Exploring our story through Biblical Stories."
